It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Harold Bailey, a distinguished leader, advocate, and visionary who served as the Executive Director of the New Mexico Office of African American Affairs (OAAA) during 2024. Dr. Bailey's unwavering commitment to uplifting African American communities in New Mexico has left an indelible mark on our state and in our hearts.
Dr. Bailey’s tenure at OAAA was defined by his passion for advocacy, community engagement, and his relentless pursuit of equity and justice. Under his leadership, the Office saw groundbreaking initiatives aimed at addressing disparities in education, health, economic development, and policy. He was a steadfast champion of collaboration, bringing together diverse voices to create lasting change.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Bailey was a mentor, a role model, and a friend to many. His wisdom, kindness, and dedication inspired all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
